Taung:The construction of a multi-million rand residential facility for older persons in Taung has been completed and will provide respite care services to the elderly, North West Premier Supra Mahumapelo announced in his State of the Province Address delivered in Taung on Friday.
“Worth R21m, this facility was constructed and completed over a period of 24 months, and will start to operate before the end of the current financial year,” Mahumapelo said, adding that the facility has a capacity to accommodate 100 older persons.
During the construction phase the project contributed immensely in the economic spin-offs such as creating jobs for more than 110 young people including women who worked as skilled and semi-skilled workers.
Mahumapelo said 40 women including youth have received accredited training linked to co-operatives and Non Profit Organisations (NPO) in baking and confectionary services in partnerships with food and beverages SETA.
He said 10 women co-operatives producing school uniform and other clothing items will receive funding from government in the current financial year.
