EASTER WEEKEND MESSAGE BY NORTH WEST PREMIER KAOBITSA BUSHY MAAPE.

MEDIA STATEMENT

14 April 2022

The 2022 Easter Weekend comes at a time when the Covid-19 State of Disaster has been relaxed. Hundreds and thousands of people will be travelling to different destinations to spend time with family and friends. Some will be travelling to different holiday destinations to spend some quality time with their loved ones. I would like to take this opportunity to remind our people to be cautious at all material times and apply all non-pharmaceutical precautionary measures in preventing the spread of Covid-19.

Thousands of our compatriots in the Christian faith-based denominations will also be travelling to different churches and holy places for spiritual rejuvenation and seek divine intervention on a number of challenges confronting our province and beloved communities. Prayer has been the most vital instrument used in a time of need and despair.

Our prayers and thoughts are with the people of Kwa-Zulu Natal during this difficult period. We wish them courage, strength and fortitude in overcoming challenges brought by unbearable weather conditions which have led to loss of life, destruction of property as well as infrastructure.

The Easter weekend is also a period where our roads will be inundated and abuzz with high volumes of traffic. I would like to appeal to all road users to exercise caution, stick to the speed limit, take rest intervals, be tolerant towards each other on the road and desist from drinking while driving. Let’s work together with law enforcement authorities and ensure that we all arrive alive.
