Mahikeng – North West Premier, Kaoboitsa Bushy Maape has on behalf of the North West Provincial Government expressed sadness at the passing of Nkosi Madode’nkundla Langa-La-Sembo Zibi.
According to the statement issued by the Zibi Royal Council Nkosi Madode’nkundla Langa-La-Sembo Zibi who was the Principal Traditional Leader of AmaHlubi both in the Eastern Cape and North West provinces passed away peacefully at his homestead of Kwa-Khayakhulu surrounded by family. Premier Maape maintains Nkosi Madode’nkundla Langa-La-Sembo Zibi led his people with dignity.
“He was an astute traditional leader who led his people with respect and dignity. He also served as Chairperson of our Provincial House of Traditional and Khoi-San Leaders. He worked closely with government in addressing a number of issues relating to traditional leadership in the province” Premier Maape said.
Premier Maape insists the province is poorer without him.
“He was an academic and equally an intellectual in his own right. He was a proponent of history, culture and heritage of African people. Throughout his life he championed the

socio-economic development and self-reliance of communities in rural areas which many of them fall under the jurisdiction of traditional leaders” Premier Maape added.
The AmaHlubi settled among Batswana after the World War I. They arrived in the North West province on 20 September 1924.
They were led by Nkosi Nonkonyana Shadrack Zibi who was among the young men who volunteered to serve as soldiers in France alongside the Allied Forces in the First World War. Some of these men died when their ship, the SS Mendi, sunk. Ends
