PROVINCIAL MEN’S MARCH AGAINST GBVF AND SUBSTANCE ABUSE IN MAHIKENG

Mahikeng – The North West Provincial Government will in collaboration with stakeholders
including civil society, Non-Governmental Organisations and the religious fraternity lead a
Provincial Men’s march against Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) on Friday, 30
May 2025. The march that will start from 08h00 at Montshioa stadium to Mmabatho stadium,
will serve as a platform for men to publicly commit to creating a safer and equitable society.
The Provincial Men’s march which also aims to challenge traditional norms, engage men and
effectively foster a culture of respect, will be led by MEC Wessels Morweng of Community
Safety and Transport Management, and Basetsana Dantjie of Social Development.
Government has recognised that Gender-Based Violence and Femicide is a national crisis and
has declared it a second pandemic in South Africa, as it is spreading widely across all
communities regardless of gender, race and age.
Through this GBVF march, the provincial government seeks to intensify informative awareness
campaigns where communities are taught about the elimination of violence against women
and girls, including human trafficking and sexual and other types of exploitation.
Community activists advocating for gender equality, NGOs working on GVBF prevention and
the general community members are urged to join the march and continue spreading the
message of fighting for the end of GBVF.
