Mahikeng – The North West has been crowned the Best Province at the 2022 ABC
Motsepe South African Schools Choral Eisteddfod recently held at Randburg in Gauteng.
The SASCE is one of the most important school programmes aimed at promoting and
fostering social cohesion, reconciliation and forge the country’s new national identity
among learners.
The province scooped thirteen (13) trophies in different categories. Twenty three (23)
schools represented the province at these competitions.
Former Chief Education Specialist for School Enrichment Mr. Jacky Maila and
Departmental Administrator Mr Mzwandile Matthews received a special award from
Minister of Basic Education Angie Motshekga for contributing towards the establishment of
this programme.
Premier Maape maintains the achievement serves as a testimony in changing negative
perceptions about the province.
“We are on course in taking the province into greater heights. This achievement serves as
a confidence booster in forging ahead with a number of socio-economic initiatives aimed
at repositioning our province. We are slowly getting there. I’m excited at this achievement
because our province is known for great things” said Premier Maape.

Let’s Grow North West Together
Premier Maape maintains the programme is important as government continues to
grapple with various challenges confronting the youth.
“The dedication, resilience and enthusiasm that was demonstrated by both learners and
teachers as well as officials and MEC Matsemela is appreciated. We are confronted with a
number of social ills such as and drugs and substance abuse, teenage pregnancy and so
forth. Initiatives such as this one are important in promoting moral regeneration in our
schools” concluded Premier Maape.
